Today is my 4 year anniversary since I started going to angelsaerialfitness. The studio has become a family and a safe space for me over the years, and it brings me so much happiness going there! Over the past year my pole motivation has come and gone. This is probably for a variety of reasons - mental health and physical illness; other life priorities; lack of inspiration from reaching a pole plateau; lack of energy or not being able to maintain a high level of practice without other areas of life suffering; etc. And that’s okay. It’s okay if pole isn’t as exciting as it once was, or if the motivation isn’t as strong as it used to be. Three things I’ve learned through my pole ups and downs are: 1. It helped me to explore why I haven’t wanted to pole; taking an approach of curiosity. This allowed me to figure out what areas of my life needed focus so I could get my pole mojo back. Once I figured out why I wasn’t inspired to pole, I was able to direct my attention where it was needed, which in turn helped me get my pole motivation back over time. 2. It’s okay to be uninspired; pole will always be there and so will the pole community. The excitement around pole will come and go, but the friends, classes, and pole itself won’t go anywhere. 3. There’s so many types of pole. When stunts didn’t speak to me, low flow did. There’s so many kinds of pole and movement to explore when the usual ones don’t spark joy. This being said, right now I want to pole so badly! I want to get my flexibility back and get back to classes once I feel better. So here’s to the next 4 years of pole!
