goodbye 2024 • reflections
I'm not usually one for long captions, but I wouldn't be comfortable wrapping up this year without thanking some of the individuals and spaces who helped me in this chapter of my pole journey.
Thank you to calmnesshotline for offering such a stunning space that feels so community-centric. And thank you to _m___g___x_ for being such a kind and patient human being. This space is one I hope to visit more in 2025 🤍
lachromebarre was the very first pole studio I ever stepped foot in, and it still has a special place in my heart as the year wraps up. I've spent so many of my (very) early mornings exploring new ways to move alone and with friends in this bubble. 🌄
I am also so so fond of academiedecirque as I've started finding new ways to move in the air. This space is one of my favorite aerial playgrounds 🥰
And shab_mtl has been my go to on so many mornings before work. I love how welcoming the staff is and how they've integrated a pole studio into their gym 💪
Of course this wouldn't be a 2024 wrap up post unless I also thanked flowers.and.ice for getting me off the ground. While there are more miles between us now, the support has been endless, and I may have never started on my pole journey had I never met her. Fortunately, she is also the reason slowflowy and I met. And I am so honored to be able to train with such a genuine and kind person.

I mashed up some clips of a choreo I taught last week. although I used a different song and a different tempo 😆 but just goes to show the versatility of how one choreo can have a different feeling/vibe/atmosphere depending on the music selection and beat. hope you enjoy!
just a reminder about upcoming classes as well - tuesday evenings are beginner + where we work on choreo, and sunday afternoons are for intro level dancers who want to work their way into learning a whole choreo 🫶 we focus more on smaller combos and movements in shoes. plus, it's a drop-in, so you don't have to feel like you missed anything from the week before 🌸

This year’s pole/hoop shoot was a tough one for me. I hit a major pole slump post competition (in late spring) and had to shift life priorities over the past few months. As a result I lost strength, flexibility and the motivation to focus on pole. Pole moves/combos became more of a struggle and didn’t have the same ease and finesse they previously had. I felt discouraged leading up to the pole shoot, but thanks to my support system, friends and studio family, I had the best day and came away with probably my favourite pole photos from any shoot I’ve ever done!
I don’t think I’m the only one who has gone through this. As aerialists (or anybody else), we push ourselves and put our bodies through a lot. We are passionate, driven, strong, and sometimes get worn out. That’s okay; that’s normal! The important thing I’ve had to remember is to go easy on myself and that, when ready, I can get it all back! The strength, flexibility, toned abs, everything will come back! So if you’re experiencing a slump, you’ve got this!!! You’re amazing and badass and can do anything you set your mind to. 🖤
