Like everyone, I have many faults. One such fault is a tendency to retreat inwards and isolate when my senses become overstimulated, when endless torrents of news of sickness, death and despair saturate my mind, when all I do is worry, worry, worry for others, for their families, for my loved ones, for myself. Like a tortoise, I retreat into my shell, feeling helpless and so small, so powerless. Day seamlessly shifts to night and night morphs to day and before I know it, it’s been over a month since I’ve so much as moved my body beyond languidly dragging myself up the stairs or felt truly grounded in my own essence and energy. Out of the blue I was struck yesterday with the urge to move. Sensually, slowly, raw - in a manner I’m not used to moving, but I craved it. I danced for hours in my basement to The Weeknd’s new albums just repeating the same variations of leg waves, extensions, the simplest of body rolls, going back to the basics and reminding myself of what it’s like to feel alive, to feel /something/, to simply flow and let go. I can’t wait to share all of the little snippets I compiled yesterday.
